Chancellor White Visits CAED

The College of Architecture and Environmental Design and Dean Theodoropoulos welcomed CSU Chancellor Timothy White on Friday, May 3, with a tour of the Simpson Strong-Tie Materials Demonstration Lab. White was met by students, Construction Management Department Head Al Hauck, and Professor of Architecture Mark Cabrinha (pictured below with the Chancellor), who explained how an array of display of wall panels on the strong-wall frame of the exterior plaza act as a sun screen. CAED students designed the panels to capture exterior sunlight and reflect it into interior areas that could benefit from diffused light, while providing a degree of screening from direct light.

While touring the college, Chancellor White also observed two emergency shelter designs,  wood framed structures, and a suspended ceiling system that dampens sound, distributes light, and controls airflow - a faculty research project partially funded by a PDCI grant through Cal Poly.

Chancellor White visited each college during his stay, meeting with students, administrators, and the academic senate executive council.
