Marcus Staniford
Marcus Staniford (Construction Management) has been promoted to President of XL Industries (XLI). Fellow Cal Poly alum John Boneso now assumes his previous role as COO of subsidiary XL Construction (XLC). Staniford’s 30-year construction career has included several notable positions, including VP of Operations at Rudolph and Sletten and SVP of Project Management at Cumming. He has also remained involved with Cal Poly, serving as President of the Construction Management Advisory Council from 2019 to 2021.
John Sandell
John Sandell (Architecture) is presenting a solo exhibition exploring new forms of seating elements for outdoor public places as a reimagining of the potential for civic furniture. The pieces range from design of seating for individuals to larger pieces offering diverse modalities of seating for small groups, which are poetic musings expressing the desire for diversification of form in public space. Sandell is an associate professor in the School of Architecture at Florida Atlantic University, teaching design and theory.
Michael Coss
Michael Coss (Construction Management) joined Gilbane Building Company as a senior project executive in northern California. As a forward-thinking leader, Coss brings over 30 years of experience in the construction industry. He will leverage his expertise and relationships to help drive successful client relationships and elevate Gilbane's focus on bringing value to clients, trade partners, and the local community.
Nishat Subah Peau
In January, Nishat Subah Peau (Architecture) was appointed as the Chair of the Emerging Professionals committee at AIASB. As the chair, she has been working to create more learning and networking opportunities for emerging professionals through various programs including monthly office tours, ARE study sessions, mentorship opportunities and lectures. Nishat earned her bachelor's in architecture at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology in 2019 and graduated with distinction from Cal Poly’s Master of Science in Architecture program in 2022. She now works as an Architecture Designer at 19six Architects in Santa Barbara. Some of Nishat’s focus areas include user experience, place making, space quality, passive design strategies and sustainability.
Ryan Lew
Ryan Lew (Architecture) won Metropolis magazine’s Future100 award for a furniture piece that he built. The “Consumed” project is a wooden table with integrated seating and planters for growing produce from seed to consumption. Lew devised the project to consider how the dining table can encourage a sustainable lifestyle.
Kristin Stoyanova
Kristin Stoyanova (Architecture) was appointed board member for the Coastal Housing Coalition (CHC), an organization dedicated to advocating and achieving workforce housing solutions for the Santa Barbara region. Born in Bulgaria, Stoyanova pursued her education at Cal Poly earning a Bachelor of Architecture and an MBA. She is a licensed architect, project manager, and business development and marketing director at Anacapa Architecture. Stoyanova emphasizes sustainability in her designs for multi-use residential, hospitality and retail properties.
Scott Eades
Scott Eades (City and Regional Planning) has been selected as the new Caltrans District 5 Director, succeeding Tim Gubbins who retired in 2022. Eades has established a history of building strong internal and external partnerships and brings nearly 30 years of experience in transportation planning, engineering, and project management to this role. Since Aug. 2020, Eades has been the deputy director for transportation planning, local assistance, and sustainability in District 5. He also worked in Caltrans Headquarters as the statewide Senate Bill 1 program manager in an acting role in the spring of 2022. He is also a certified project management professional and recently completed Caltrans Leadership Training Program II.
Greg Balen
Greg Balen (Architecture) has been appointed Chief Operating Officer at Empire Communities, one of North America’s largest privately held homebuilders. Balen brings 30 years of experience in the U.S. residential home development and asset management industries. In his most recent role, Balen was the regional president for Landsea Homes, Texas. He also brings experience with Starwood Land Ventures, New Urban West Inc., JEN Asset Management and other progressive roles in related fields. Balen is a licensed general contractor in California and Arizona and a licensed architect in California, Arizona, and Texas, with NCARB certification.
Guille Gil-Reynoso
Guille Gil-Reynoso (Landscape Architecture), a communications professional and women’s empowerment advocate, has joined the Board of Directors for the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara. Born in Zacatecas, Mexico, Gil-Reynoso worked as a landscape architectural designer for Wallace Roberts & Todd in San Diego and George W. Girvin Associates in Santa Barbara before pursuing her current focus. She now works as an Advancement & Communications Manager for Cate School.
Rapunzel Amador-Lewis
Rapunzel Amador-Lewis (Architectural Engineering) recently earned a Doctor of Education from USC Rossier School of Education. They received the 2022 Doctor of Education in Organizational Change and Leadership Outstanding Student of the Year award. Amador-Lewis obtained her Professional Engineer's license in California in 1997 and later earned P.E. registrations in eleven other Western States. With the dream of starting her structural engineering firm, she returned to school and earned a Master of Business Administration from California State University Stanislaus in Turlock, CA in 2006. Today she manages her practice, Amador Lewis, and remains an approved consultant to BlueScope Buildings, Varco-Pruden and Butler Builders.
