George Hasslein Medal Nominations
This medal is given in memory and honor of George J. Hasslein, FAIA, founding dean of the College of Architecture and Environmental Design. George started serving Cal Poly in December 1949 as a teacher and was appointed dean, a position he held from the founding of the college in 1968 until 1983. He believed in the Learn by Doing philosophy of Cal Poly and fostered an approach to teaching that was committed to the interdisciplinary experience of the professions of architecture, city and regional planning, construction management, landscape architecture and architectural engineering.
Nomination Criteria
The medal will be awarded to a Cal Poly alumni, faculty or supporters who demonstrates a commitment to George's passion for interdisciplinary learning, teaching and education.
- Candidates should have made, or are making, exceptional contributions to the advancement of both architectural and environmental design education, with an emphasis on Learn by Doing.
- Candidates must be an educator, practitioner or retired architect, architectural engineer, landscape architect, construction manager, or planner.
Nominations should be accompanied by a brief reason why the individual is being nominated, describing how the candidate meets the above criteria. If selected, the honoree will be invited to an awards dinner and ceremony in San Luis Obispo, date to be determined.
The College of Architecture and Environmental Design Foundation (CAEDF) is not accepting nominations for the George Hasslein Medal at this time.
